Nevertheless, a restraunt manager, Edmund Wong Wai Chow has put that theory into practice with a a Thai sex worker back in his Clementi home (contact from Sammyboy forum ?) and resulted in a S$500 fine from the court. However, the Thai sex worker subsequently fell to her death from the 9th storey parapet.

What I could not understand, from the death, it seems to me more like a BDSM session that went horribly wrong and he could get away simply with a $500 fine ? Or have I mis-understood the article ?

Expensive Pee - S$1,000

A taxi driver was caught red-handed peeing in the public despite warning from the passerby. Unfortunately, his taxi number plate was noted down and submitted to LTA who in turn referred to Agency of National Environment for summon ! Click here.

This uncle really have himself to blame sia ! Anyway, I hope he has learned his lesson by paying S$1,000 for his peeing session !

Singapore School leave Vietnamese Students High & Dry

Just one of the few cases whereby the school disappear faster and cleaner than David Copperfield. Perhaps, next round time, David should make a school disappear instead of Statue of Liberty. I'm sure he will receive lots of call asking for his "disappearing service" !

To summarize some of the key details of the news article :

• Runaway with S$9,425 each to 2 Vietnamese student
  

I can't imagine a 6 months English course require a fees of more than S$28,000 for 2 ! Gosh, the England for those classes must be beri powederful sia !

A group of lecturers in NTU (Nanyang Technological University) has filed a compliant against the university for the lack of transparency in awarding life-time contract to staff citing bias and undemocratic. Click here for more info.

I used to attend AP Michael Heng lecture back in my University days where he used to teach Entrepreneurship. Personally, I felt he appears more like a politician than a lecturer during class. Arguing with him often result in a losing battle most of the time.

Teachers Kana Caned

Recently, there was a case whereby a 32 years old Singaporean female teacher having sex with her 15 years old student (see here). Likewise, there was another another article summarizing the various unglamourious stuff those teachers did in their private life which raises a few eyebrown (especially from their boss).

Well, I must said that teachers in Singapore are pretty well taken care off and fortunate to get reprimanded on things they could control.

The same could not be said for the teachers located in Tanzania where they were canned (some conducted right in front of their pupils) - read here.

Guess, it that were to happen in Singapore, I would guess there will be a real shortage of teachers resulted in an industry similar to construction whereby tons of foreigners would be needed to educate the future of Singapore !

In such a economic climate with poor consumer sentiment, increasing prices is the last thing any consumer would expect from a reputable brand ! Nevertheless, Asustek has pulled the trigger of been the 1st to do that ! Check this out.

Based on the article, it was reported that an increase of price will take effect from 1st March 2009. So are they trying to setup a decoy in driving their sales up prior to the price increase ? Or are they trying to price themselves out from the market and finally exit from the market totally ?

Fortunately, I have bought my netbook last year, but having said that, even with the price increase from 1st March 2009, I still pay more than what it should be :(

Female Teacher had Sex with Young Boy

Gosh ! This must be kinda of news you thought it never happen in Singapore. Nevertheless, it did happened, check it out here.

In short, a 32 year old female teacher has sex with a 15-years old boy which under the law classified as a minor. Interestingly, the law doesn't differentiate between boys and girls.

Probably, the teacher is inspired after watching Kate Winslet did that stunt in "The Reader" movie :) So, are we expecting an increase of such cases after that movie ? If yes, parents of young boys that old enough to make babies, beware !

Anyway, what has happen to all the teachers in school ? Too stress up with work ? But I guess, the parent of the boys "wouldn't mind" that much as compared with a male teacher doing that to a female student.

At least it's not a male teacher doing it to their son which remind me of sodomy :)

Temasek Holding : Ho Ching's Step Down

Ho Ching, wife of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, will step down as CEO of Singapore state own Temasek Holding.

Well, the natural question will be, why now ?

Nevertheless, what caught my attention is the way different media put it across. For example, you can compare the tone and content of both article from Straits Times and Reuters.



Based on the article from Reuters, the potential loss has been summarized as follow :


1. Invested in Barclays PLC on 23rd July 2007 worth S$3 billion at a share price of 7.20 per share (see link) with current price worth slightly more than a dollar.

2. Acquired a 49.6% stake in Shin Corp (see link) worth S$3.1 billion at a share price of THB 49.25. Based on the last traded price in SET, it was closed at THB 17.40 on 6th Feb 2009. That represent a whopping 64% difference.

3. Loss of S$2 billion from a investment of S$5 billion in Merill Lynch

Well, the potential losses are remained to be seen in a longer run, nevertheless, it sounds like a pretty tough job for the next Temasek Holding CEO to be handed with. Sounds like a deja-vu between George W. Bush and US President Barack Obama happening in our own soil :)

Cheers @ Choa Chu Kang tobacco retail license suspended

What a shame that the shop I do patronize at times got their tobacco license suspended ! I'm sure there are much more retail shops selling cigarettes to underage noti boys and girls.

At times, the benefit of doubt have to be given to those underage teenagers who looks more mature than usual (e.g. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). The employee can't be checking 100% on all purchase of cigarettes which will result in long queue and embarrassing moment for the customer.

Bottom line, the army rule still stand, you can do anything but don't get caught !
